Getting Started

Getting Started with The Playful Start
A simple, supportive process designed with your family in mind. Starting services can feel overwhelming, and you may not be sure what to expect. At The Playful Start, we aim to make the process clear, collaborative, and supportive from the very beginning. We’ll guide you each step of the way while getting to know your child and what matters most to your family.
Step 1: Initial Consultation
We begin with a phone call to learn more about your child, your concerns, and your goals. This is also a time for you to ask questions and get a feel for our approach. This conversation helps your family determine whether we are a good fit.

Step 2: Assessment
Next, we complete an assessment in your child’s natural environment, such as the home setting. This allows us to observe your child’s communication, social engagement, play skills, and daily routines in a comfortable setting. We also gather input from you to ensure we have a full picture of your child’s strengths and needs.
Step 3: Individualized Plan
Based on the assessment, we develop a personalized plan tailored to your child. This includes meaningful goals focused on communication, social development, play, adaptive skills, and independence. We review the plan with you and make sure it aligns with your priorities as a family.

Step 4: Beginning Services
Services begin using a play-based natural environment approach. Sessions are designed to feel engaging and supportive, while building important developmental and behavioral skills within your child’s everyday routines.
Step 5: Ongoing Support & Collaboration
We believe parents and caregivers are essential partners in a child’s progress. Throughout services, we provide guidance, coaching, and regular updates so you feel confident supporting your child outside of sessions. As your child grows, we continue to adjust goals to meet their evolving needs.
